hello, my names paula white, i'm a mixed media artist and printmaker based in the seaside town of lowestoft, suffolk, the most eastiy point in the UK you know!!

I am inspired by many things, my own surroundings, travel, architecture, packaging, iconic imagery, Elvis Presley and the 1950s. Yet, I can always rely on my home town of Lowestoft and its surrounding areas for inspiration. I am particularly drawn to the bright and brisk coastal towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold; with their charming quirky houses, fishing boats and amazing clean and vivid light, which is perhaps only experienced on the east coast. I am intrigued by the hidden beauty of all buildings, from town houses to industrial factories and working docks.

I work on old envelopes and papers, carefully selecting snippets of colour and text from old magazines and books. I assemble areas of paper collage, which I then work onto using a combination of acrylic, pencil, oil pastel, Indian ink, traditional printmaking techniques and machine stitching, to create original and detailed work.

I aim to capture the charm and personality of a place, with tiny details not seen at first glance, encouraging the viewer to look more closely. I enjoy producing work that people like to look at. If they’re happy, I’m happy.

I work from home, in my studio in Lowestoft, Suffolk.
